Commentary | Diverse elements alluding to don Quixote and his adventures: shield, gauntlet, basin (Manbrino's helmet), sword, lance, saddle, books...; also a jester scepter and and owl.
The jester scepter may allude to the Comedy genre used by Cervantes, but also remembers the bojiganga. The owl is used as a symbol of Chivalry novels. Good headpiece. |
Notes | Prosper-Adolphe-Léon Cherrier (Flessingue, 1806 - ¿?): Wood engraver. He was a disciple of Lacoste “father” and Godard. Cherrier engraved designs by Tony Johannot, Arnoult, Grandville, Gigoux, Forest, Lecurieux, Bouquet, Jules David, Becoeur and others. He collaborated with Journal des Jeunes personnes (Benezit II, 715). |
