Commentary The housekeeper and the niece receive don Quixote, who arrives "enchanted" in a cage on an oxcart.
The faces of the three main characters (housekeeper, niece and don Quixote) are very remarkable.
Picturesque setting.
Excellent drawing and engraving.
Notes 1 - Ashbee reads the engraver's signature as "Blauer", but neither "Blauer" or "Slaver" are known engravers. Other illustration (DQ, Montesinos and Durandarte; f.p. 329) is signed by "S. SLV", signature that could refer to the same engraver (Slaver?) of the current illustration.
2 - Same illus. first published in London: Daly, 1842.
3 - Poor paper preservation.
