Commentary | Accurate to Cervantes' text, the innkeeper, holding a sword and a book, knights don Quixote, knelt before him.
Doña Tolosa holds don Quixote's sword and doña Molinera a shield (it should be don Quixote's spurs). It also appears the boy with a candle. Two other women (the one next to a well is very remarkable), do not belong to Cervantes' text. Drawing and engraving are excellent. |
Notes | 1 - Copy after Coypel's design (first appeared in Paris: Surugue, 1724; also copied for La Haye: Pierre de Hondt, 1746).
2 - Same plate first engraved for La Haye: P. Gosse & A. Moetjens, 1744. |
