Commentary | Well-known scene since Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657), whose basic composition has been copied. In the foreground, Sancho's blanketing, observed by the innkeeper from the inn door (he should appear blanketing Sancho too); in the background, don Quixote observes Sancho from behind the inn wall.
Interest in comical scenes; the expressions of the figures have been reinforced, almost as caricatures (see Sancho's frightened face or the man on the right holding the blanket). |
