Commentary | Well-known scene since Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657), whose basic composition was copied in later editions with little changes.
Don Quixote gets ready to fight with the lion, which remains into its cage; on the right, the lionkeeper; in the left background, Sancho, don Diego and the carter running away. Illustration with little novelty. Don Quixote's figure, well-drawn and engraved, is remarkable. |
