Commentary Don Quixote in his bed dying sane as Alonso Quijano surrounded by the housekeeper, barber (sketched), the bachellor Sansón Carrasco, priest and Sancho, knelt and holding don Quixote's hand.
In the foreground, with his back turned on the viewer, the notary.
Theatrical scene; the canopy has been used as a backdrop.
Remarkable composition, but the quality of the figures is unequal; Sancho's is quite good.
Notes 1 - Same plate first used for Paris: Furne, 1858 (also in 1861) copied after the illustration first appeared in Paris: Mequignon, 1821 (and 1822).
