Commentary Don Quixote speaks to Maritornes as if she was a maiden and she flees away from him.
On the left, the muleteer.
This episode was first represented by Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1675), but in a very different way.
Savery was interested in the humorous fight among Sancho, Maritornes and the muleteer.
Oldfield and Vanderbank chose a funny moment not because of the action, but of the dialogue.
Engraving and drawing are excellent.
Notes 1 - Same plate first engraved for London: Tonson, 1749, now partially-erased.
2 - Plate 6.
