Commentary | Known scene since Dordrecht: Savery, 1657; the encounter of Dorotea, Cardenio, don Fernando and Luscinda at the inn.
Balaca has developed a theatrical and simple composition, choosing the most dramatic moment, the very instant when all the characters recognized each others. The scene has been organized in two groups. In the left, the one of Cardenio, Dorotea, the barber and the priest; in the right, the one of Luscinda, don Fernando and his men. Although too much theatrical, the expressions of the four main characters are quite remarkable. |
Notes | It has been used a variety of chromolithography known as oleography to imitate an oil painting. |
