Commentary Don Quixote attacks one of the officers of the Holy Brotherhood (center); a second officer arrives to help the first (right); don Luis, pointing to don Quixote, orders the servant that is seizing him to help don Quixote (background); Sancho continues fighting with the barber (left); the priest tries to calm them down; and the innkeeper's wife and her daughter (or Maritornes) observe the scene.
Original setting; traditionally, this scene is set outside the inn.
The illustration lacks some details from the text: the barber basin, the packsaddle, the broken lance...
Excellent drawing/etching style.
Notes 1 - Same illustration first published in London: J. C. Nimmo and Bain, 1880.
