Commentary | Cervantes' portrait in an oval frame and resting on a base with his name inscribed on it.
Although the use of etching is quite acceptable for the face, the whole image seems disproportionate. |
Notes | 1 - Despite the caption "D'après le tableau de Juan de Jauregui", this painting was attributed to Alonso del Arco.
2 - Based on the first portrait donated to the Royal Academy by the Conde del Águila in 1773. 3 - Same painting used by José del Castillo to design the portrait for Madrid: Ibarra, 1780. |
