Commentary | Centrifugal composition (more movement) where don Quixote is the center and the other figures form a "V".
On the left, the innkeeper and others. On the right, Sancho, the broken theater and others. Maese Pedro appears from inside the broken theater and his servant, who was telling don Gaiferos' tale, running away. Theatrical and baroque composition; all the characters appear looking at the viewer and a big curtain has been placed as backdrop. Good drawing and engraving. |
Notes | 1 - Same plate first engraved for London: Knaplock, 1725; turned copy after Coypel’s illustration engraved by Poilly (Paris: Surugue, c. 1723).
2 - In 1731 edition, volume III is in tome II; in 1725, there were four tomes. |
