Commentary Don Quixote mounted on Rocinante (the innkeeper holds its reins) arrives at the inn.
Two "ladies" ("mujeres del partido" or party girls) try to run away afraid of him, but he calms them down (their faces do not represent fear).
In the background, a swineherd blowing a horn; don Quixote confuses him with a dwarf welcoming the knight.
The setting has nothing to do with real "manchegan" architecture.
Drawing and engraving are excellent.
First representation of this episode.
Notes 1 - This plate (nº 3) has no signatures; neither by the painter nor by the engraver.
2 - The original composition has been attributed to John Vanderbank, but the engraver, William Hogarth, made several changes in it (I179-183).
