	Commentary	"There lived not long one of those old-fashioned gentlemen". Alonso Quijano at his house in a village of La Mancha. Great interest in representing real Spanish characters and accurate period clothes and furniture. Jiménez Aranda's drawing skill is masterly.
	Notes	1 - The original drawing (Chinese ink and gouache white) was finished in 1898 in Sevilla and presented at the Exposition of Fine Arts of Barcelona (1898). 2 - "Nos presenta luego al hidalgo «seco de carnes, enjuto de rostro», con ojos soñadores, indicio primero de que, aun cuerdo, no vivía del todo en la realidad, y en uno de aquellos «ratos en que estaba ocioso», sentado en un sillón de cuero junto a un vargueño. Este asunto fué de los que hizo por el natural en París; de suerte que el presente dibujo es una repeteción hecha por un modelo de más carácter que el primero" (José Ramón Mélida: "Don José Jiménez Aranda y su "Quijote"", vol.
