Commentary | Don Quixote, completely hanged from his hand, begins to scream; the innkeeper, alarmed, appears to check what is happening; also in the scene, the officers of the Holy Brotherhood (?), the servants of don Luis' father (?), the priest (as a friar?) or others.
Well-known scene, but this illustration results unique thanks to Scheurich's original and highly personal style, very influenced by Symbolist Painting. Deformed figures, almost as caricatures, drawn with great freedom; quite oniric. Very remarkable drawing style. |
Notes | 1 - Wrongly-placed f.p. 32 in volume II (chapter 7:2), it belongs to volume I (chapter 44:1); its own reference to "Cervantes, Don Quixote II" is wrong. |
