Commentary | Don Quixote galloping on Rocinante to attack a pair of Benedictine monks; accurate to Cervantes' text, they are mounted on mules and holding parasols.
Behind the monks, the carriage with the Basque ladies. In the foreground, Sancho mounted on his donkey observing the scene. Quite original composition with Sancho in the middle of the foreground and with his back turned on the viewer, dividing the scene: don Quixote on the right and the monks on the left. Well-resolved illustration. |
