Commentary Scene resolved with great realism.
In the foreground, Sancho arrives with his donkey where don Quixote and Rocinante have been thrown by a windmill (in the background).
Anecdotal detail: a miller sticks his head out of the windmill to see what has happened.
Drawing, engraving and shading are excellent.
Impression of depth is created by Chodowiecki's masterly use of shades.
Notes 1 - Dated in 1779.
2 - Same plate first engraved for Leipzig: Caspar Fritsch, 1780-81.
