Commentary Usually-represented episode in 18th century editions (Dorotea washing her feet), but Chodowiecki has chosen a not so usual instant: Dorotea runs away when the priest, the barber and Cardenio surprise her.
Dorotea's movement is well-resolved (hair, clothes...).
Bucolic setting.
Notes 1 - Placed as frontispiece.
2 - Plate V. Dated in 1779.
3 - Same plate first engraved for Leipzig: Caspar Fritsch, 1780-81.
