Commentary Attacking a windmill, don Quixote and Rocinante are hit and lifted by the sail; Sancho, afraid, observes the scene from the background.
Well-known scene.
The illustration, with don Quixote and Rocinante lifted into the air by the sail, is exaggerated, but quite effective.
Vierge's style is absolutely masterly; carefully-done setting based on real places from La Mancha.
Notice also the perfect use of shading.
Usual in Vierge's illustrations, some element in black creates a worth noting contrast.
His short and fine drawing lines imitate etching.
