Commentary Don Quixote, dressed as a 18th century English gentleman, reads peacefully while he observes his family arms (on the wall); these, far from looking like "tomadas de orín y llenas de moho, luengos siglos había, que estaban puestas y olvidadas en un rincón" (1:1), appear new and neat.
Drawing and engraving are good (don Quixote's figure, furniture, books, arms...); not so the room, too small, cold and without details.
Notes 1 – Plate newly engraved in a reduced size by Van der Gucht after Vertue's plate with Vanderbank’s design first engraved for London: Tonson, 1738; in the original, there was a fireplace on the left too.
