Commentary Two different scenes (archaic):
The first one, in the background: don Quixote fights with the muleteers during the vigil of his arms.
The second one, in the foreground: don Quixote is knighted by the innkeeper while doña Molinera holds a candle (not the spurs) and doña Tolosa don Quixote's sword.
Other men observe the scene.
The boy holding the candle that appears in Cervantes' text has not been represented.
Drawing and engraving are quite remarkable; detailed figures and fine burin lines.
Notes 1 - Photomechanical copy of the illustration appeared in Paris: Compagnie des Libraires, 1713.
2 – Turned and improved copy after Clouzier's engraving (Paris: Compagnie des Libraires, 1700) after Bouttats' illustration for Amberes: Verdussen, 1672-73; some figures and elements (candle) are new or have been changed.
