Commentary | Original composition: don Quixote, in the foreground, observes Sancho's blanketing in Juan Palomeque's inn (in the background).
It was more used the composition created by Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657) with Sancho in the foreground and don Quixote in the background. Accurate details: bottle with Fierabrás' balsam tied to don Quixote's saddle. Acceptable engraving (don Quixote's armour, log, Sancho "flying"...). Good setting. |
Notes | 1 – Despite the only signature of "A. Carnicero", this illustration was designed by Isidro and Antonio Carnicero.
2 - Copy after Isidro and Antonio Carnicero’s illustration for Madrid: Ibarra, 1782 (and 1787). 3 - Placed as frontispiece. |
