Commentary | The barber and the priest talk with don Quixote to check if he is sane or insane, while the housekeeper and the niece observe them.
The composition is simple, but theatrical (great canopy). Drawing and engraving are good; more austere than in Lefebvre's illustrations. |
Notes | 1 – Same plate first engraved for Paris: Didot L’Aîné-Deterville, 1799; now without frame.
2 - Lebarbier changes the figure of don Quixote designed by Lefebvre. Lefebvre's don Quixote is elder and with beard; Lebarbier's don Quixote is younger and without beard. |
