Commentary Don Quixote raises himself in his stirrups grasping his sword firmly with both hands ready to attack the Basque (Biscayan); the Basque, accurate to Cervantes' text, tries to protect himself with a cushion.
In the background, observing the scene scared, Sancho and the Basque ladies of the coach.
Excellent drawing and engraving; notice don Quixote's expression.
Notes 1 - Placed as frontispiece.
2 - This illustration was done first for the Paris: Briand, 1824 edition.
