Commentary Basic and conventional composition, but enriched with Coypel´s bucolic and gallant style.
Two different scenes:
In the foreground, the priest, the barber and Cardenio discover Dorotea (in man clothes), who is washing her feet into a stream.
In the background, Sancho tries to convince don Quixote to leave Sierra Morena.
Drawing and engraving are bad.
Notes 1 - Copy of Coypel's illustration (Paris: Surugue, c. 1735-38) through Jacob van der Schley's copy (La Haye: Hondt, 1746). Both 1746 and 1777 copies with the same vertical format. Both c. 1735 and 1777 illustrations with the same composition; in 1746 it is turned.
2 - In Cushing's copy, tomes I and II are bound together.
