Commentary | Duke's servants persecute Sancho to wash his beard with dirty water; Sancho runs looking for the Duchess' help.
Superb setting and composition; the characters go up along a staircase (well-represented movement); on the right, the composition is open with a deep perspective, but the light comes from the opposite side. Drawing and engraving are acceptable; better-detailed arquitecture than figures. |
Notes | 1 - Copy of Boucher's illustration (Paris: Dupuis, c. 1733-45) through Tanjé's copy (La Haye: Hondt, 1746). Both 1746 and 1777 copies with the same vertical format, but their compositions are turned between themself.
2 - In Cushing's copy, tomes III and IV are bound together (volume II). |
