Commentary Court scene suitable to Coypel's style (Ionic columns gallery, detailed architectures, fountains, rich clothes...).
In the center of the composition, don Quixote embraces Sancho; on the right, the Duke and servants; on the left, the Duchess and servants.
Theatrical well-balanced composition.
Clumsy drawing and engraving; not to much detailed faces.
Notes 1 - Copy of Coypel's illustration (Paris: Surugue, c. 1724) through Jacob van der Schley's copy (La Haye: Hondt, 1746). Both 1746 and 1777 copies with the same vertical format. Both c. 1724 and 1777 illustrations with the same composition; in 1746 it is turned.
2 - In Cushing's copy, tomes III and IV are bound together (volume II).
