Commentary | Sancho Panza, in the center of the composition, gesticulates while three servants, by doctor Pedro Recio's order, takes away the most delicious dishes.
Pedro Recio is dressed in a ridiculous manner. Suitable scene for Coypel's style: many servants (forming a semicircle), rich architecture, lamp, curtains, clothes... Drawing and engraving are acceptable; this is one of the best plates of the set. |
Notes | 1 - Copy of Coypel's illustration (Paris: Surugue, c. 1728-30) through Jacob van der Schley's copy (La Haye: Hondt, 1746). Both 1746 and 1777 copies with the same vertical format. Both c. 1728 and 1777 illustrations with the same composition; in 1746 it is turned.
2 - In Cushing's copy, tomes III and IV are bound together (volume II). |
