Commentary Don Quixote tries to help the enchanted Dulcinea, who has fallen from her donkey; meanwhile, Sancho laughs (he knows the deceit).
Original scene.
Scene resolved with realism and with anecdotal details (one donkey smelling another), but also with idealized figures (peasant girls).
Drawing and engraving with little quality.
Notes 1 – Copied after Chodowiecki’s plate for Weimar/Leipzig: Fritschischen Buchhandlung, 1775.
2 - Placed as frontispiece.
3 - Lower left corner (with engraver's signature) is torn.
