	Commentary	Cervantes' portrait in an oval frame surrounded by garlands and a laurel wreath. Underneath, usual iconographic elements: sword and shield (Cervantes as a soldier); comedy mask, lyre, flute, quill, Don Quixote, La Galatea, Persiles, Sonetos and Novelas ejemplares (Cervantes as a poet and a writer). Portrait based on an oil canvas attributed to Alonso del Arco (maybe a copy after the original by Jáuregui or Pacheco done during Cervantes' life). The Spanish Royal Academy obtained this portrait from the honorific academician Count of Águila (Sevilla). In "Prólogo de la Academia" (XIX and XX), it is described how this portrait was found and how it looks like the portrait designed by William Kent (London: Tonson, 1738).
