Commentary | Isolated representation of the innkeeper who knighted don Quixote holding a book and a sword; very remarkable figure.
Good drawing and engraving. Vanderbank included this figure in his representation of the whole scene for London: Tonson, 1738; maybe, Vanderbank used an original sketch by Hogarth or it was Hogarth who made his design after Vanderbank's illustration. |
Notes | 1 - Plate II.
2 - Facsimile reproduction of Mills' engraving in vol. 3 of Hogarth Illustrated by John Ireland (London: J. & J. Boydell, 1791-98). |
