Commentary | Princess Micomicona (Dorotea), accompanied by the barber disguised, kneels down before don Quixote; both characters form a diagonal that divides the illustration; on the right, Sancho; on the left; the priest and Cardenio hidden.
Good details; on one trunk it is written: "Mi Dulcinea del Toboso..."; reference to don Quixote's penance; "escribiendo, y grabando por las cortezas de los árboles, y por la menuda arena muchos versos, todos acomodados a su tristeza, y algunos en alabanza de Dulcinea" (26:1). Good drawing and engraving; see Micomicona's detailed figure (face, gesture, hands, dress...). This is one of the best illustrations of this edition. |
