Commentary | Governor Sancho, accompanied by his secretary and others, judges between a man and the woman who has accused him of having raped her; both appears in the foreground fighting.
The setting, quite theatrical and baroque, seems based on Coypel's illustration (Paris: Surugue, c. 1731). This is one of the best illustrations of this edition. Notice the female figure in the left background; her engraving is quite remarkable. |
