Commentary | In the center: Quiteria and Basilio, who pretends to have stabbed himself; both well-lighted.
On the right, Camacho ready to draw his sword. From the left, don Quixote goes to stop him, while Sancho stays protecting his food. Also the priest and several women. Theatrical composition. Drawing and engraving are quite remarkable. |
Notes | 1 - Copy after Coypel's design (first appeared in Paris: Surugue, c. 1724; also copied for La Haye: Pierre de Hondt, 1746).
2 - Same plate first engraved for La Haye: P. Gosse & A. Moetjens, 1744; the references have been changed from Spanish into French and the signatures erased. 3 – Plate XV. |
