Commentary | Cervantes' portrait based on the model designed by Castillo for Madrid: Ibarra, 1780 with light changes.
In an oval frame with garlands and, underneath, symbols of chivalry (lance, sword, crown...) and symbols of pastoral literature (flutes, harp...). Excellent drawing and engraving; remarkable light and shadow effects. |
Notes | 1 - Same plate first engraved for Edinburgh: William Paterson, 1879-84. |
