Commentary In Sierra Morena, don Quixote, mounted on Rocinante, reads Cardenio's handbook while Sancho ransacks the portmanteau.
In the background, mad Cardenio running among the rocks.
The figures of don Quixote and Rocinante have been drawn and engraved quite well; notice the naturalism of the horse; don Quixote looks like a real errant knight.
Remarkable setting; the landscape has been engraved with high detail.
This can be considered the best illustration in this edition.
Notes 1 - The illustration is dated on September 1, 1792.
2 - This illustration was newly engraved for New York: E. Duyckinck, 1825.
