Commentary | Cervantes' portrait sat at a table, holding a quill and writing.
The author has been represented completly one-handed. In the background, a library with books behind a curtain. Drawing and engraving are quite acceptable, although the image results forced (notice the right hand, the face...). |
Notes | 1 - Process reproduction of portrait published in Instructive and Intertailing Novels edition London: Nourse, 1742.
2 - Jacob Folkema engraved this portrait in 1739 for an edition of the Novelas Ejemplares, but he represented Cervantes with both hands. |
