Commentary This scene is an almost perfect and turned copy after Navarro's illustration (Madrid: Sancha, 1797 - 1798); don Quixote is bandaged by the daughter of the innkeeper's wife, to whom Sancho is saying that he has an arm hurt too, while Maritornes observes them.
The remarkable figure of Maritornes designed by Navarro, blind of one eye, is unmistakable.
Johannot has changed the figure of the daughter notably, now much more young and beautiful.
Notes 1 - Reprint of Johannot's illustration for Paris: Dubochet, 1836-37.
