Commentary Don Quixote remains alone in Sierra Morena, sat on a rock and thoughtful; a kind of image in keeping with Romanticism liking. However, this figure is not excessively Romantic; compare with the representation of this scene by Smirke (London: Cadell & Davies, 1818).
Notes 1 - Reprint of Johannot's illustration for Paris: Dubochet, 1836-37.
