Commentary | Allegorical scene.
In a room, don Quixote, asleep, is protected by Wisdom (as Athena among shining clouds); his arms and barber basin remain abandoned. On the right, Sancho, awake, is captivated by Folly (with a jester scepter among dark clouds), who shows him a crown and a castle (the promised government of the island). Poor engraving, but acceptable. |
Notes | 1 - Same plate first engraved for La Haye: Chez Bassompierre Pére, 1773.
2 - Placed in chapter 68:2. |
