Commentary | Don Quixote and Sancho encounter the Duchess hunting.
This episode allows to represent both don Quixote and Sancho in a comical way (both of them fallen on the ground from their mounts), but Hayman has preferred to represent only Sancho fallen, while don Quixote is already up and making a bow before the Duchess. This image of the Duchess ridding a horse and holding a goshawk will be habitual in 18th century editions. Poor engraving. |
