Commentary | After fighting with the wineskins, don Quixote keels down before the priest mistaking him for the Princess Micomicona; Sancho, the innkeeper, the barber, Cardenio and Dorotea observe the scene from the door.
All the scene has not been drawn or engraved with the same quality; don Quixote's figure is remarkable, but the ones of Sancho or the priest are clumsier. |
Notes | 1 - "La estampa de Lorenzale -la mejor de la obra- es realmente bella. Bella y españolísima. Representa la escena de los odres de vino. Y lo hace con la austeridad y la sobriedad consabidas: con ese realismo español anterior y posterior a todas las escuelas pasajeras, innato y permanente, que constituye el humus hispano de donde brotan sus más exclusivas flores literarias y artísticas. Hasta el punto de que, por poco que nos distraigamos, no sabremos si esta clásica estampa quijotesca la hemos visto en la edición ochocentista de Gorchs o en la setecentista de la Real Academia de la Lengua" (Givanel 220). |
