Commentary | Well-known scene.
In the foreground, don Quixote has defeated the Knight of the Mirrors (Sansón Carrasco, fallen on the ground); notice don Quixote's threatening face. In the background, the squire (Tomé Cecial with a big false nose) looks at Sancho, who remains climbed on the tree. Drawing and engraving with little quality. Deficient printing/preservation. |
Notes | 1 - Copy with little quality after Le Barbier's illustration (Paris: Didot-Deterville, 1799); also previously copied by Bigant for Paris: Chez Gide, 1806 and Paris: H. Nicolle, 1809.
2 - Placed as frontispiece. |
