Commentary | Well-known scene since Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657), whose composition has been almost copied.
In the foreground, don Quixote standing up before the cart ready to fight with the lion; the lionkeeper on the cart has just opened the cage. In the background, Sancho Panza, don Diego de Miranda and carter running away. Illustration without originality. Drawing and engraving are quite acceptable despite some faults. |
Notes | 1 – Copy in a reduced size after Antonio Carnicero’s illustration for Madrid: Ibarra, 1780. |
