Commentary | Well-known scene since Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657), whose composition has been almost copied here.
In the foreground, the Knight of the White Moon defeats don Quixote, who falls towards the viewer; remarkable figures. From the background, Sancho arrives to help don Quixote; don Antonio and the Viceroy observe them. Set in Barcelona beach (galleys, port...). Drawing and engraving are very remarkable. |
