Commentary Well-known scene with the basic characters: don Quixote, knelt down and still with his helmet, knighted by the innkeeper, holding a sword and a book; doña Molinera and doña Tolosa, with the sword; and the boy with the candle; also a woman at the window and some men.
The figures of doña Tolosa and doña Molinera are resolved as idealized and Romantic images.
Good light and shadow effects (produced by the candle and the moon among clouds).
Faces are excellently drawn and engraved (see the innkeeper, woman at the window...).
Print of great quality.
Notes Abraham Raimbach (London, 1776 – Greenwich, 1843): Engraver, acquafortist and miniaturist. He was a disciple of the engraver J. Hall and in the schools of the Royal Academy. He began working as a miniaturist for several booksellers; then, he continued working as an engraver. He engraved illustrations for one edition of The Thousand and one nights and, between 1797 and 1805, he exposed some portraits in the Royal Academy (Benezit VIII, 585).
