Commentary | Well-known scene; the illustration has been quite influenced by Antonio Rodríguez' (Madrid: Imprenta Real, 1797) (see the setting, the innkeeper with the lamp, Sancho and other details). Now the print is larger, what allows more detailed figures (see innkeeper's expression, don Quixote's gesture and the whole setting).
Don Quixote's figure is very well-drawn and engraved (see his legs and neck), with certain dignity despite the humor of the moment. In the background, the priest, the barber and Cardenio. |
