Commentary | Simple but effective composition with the four characters in the foreground: don Quixote, fallen on the ground; Sancho, fallen over don Quixote; Cardenio, with gesture of having hitting Sancho; and the goatherd, trying to stop Cardenio.
Cardenio's figure is forced to remark his violent gesture (see his clothes and hair). Don Quixote and Sancho's figures, one fallen over the other, are remarkable. Perfect use of burin engraving and stipple in the figures and of etching in the landscape. |
