Commentary | Copy from illustration by Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657; Brussels: Mommarte, 1662; Amberes: Verdussen, 1672 - 1673). In the foreground, don Quixote lying over the broken bed; in the background, the fighting between Sancho, Maritornes and the muleteer is discovered by the innkeeper, who holds a candle.
The engraving is crude (Maritornes is deformed, the engraver has not paid attention to the candle light effects, non-detailed inn...). |
