Description: Print satirizing the Englishman John Law, his Mississippi Company, and the international land and trading speculation in worthless shares of the South Sea Bubble of 1719-1720, which resulted in an international scandal. Acquired with the support of the Lynn Holleran and Chuck Bowman Cervantes Endowment.

V) and 51 illustrations; all unsigned. 32 illustrations (vols. 1-4) are about Cervantes' Don Quixote, most of them copied after Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657; and Bruselas: Mommarte, 1662) and Bouttats (Amberes: Verdussen, 1672-73); some modified and some totally new. 19 illustrations (vols. 5-6) about Saint-Martin's and Challe's Continuation. The copies were made after Clouzier's engravings for Paris: Compagnie des Libraires, 1700; now with some changes and better quality. Frontis for vol. 1 copied after Clouzier/Harrewÿn's frontis for Bruxelles: Guillaume Fricx, 1706. Illustrations: The complete set consists of 25 illustrations designed by Charles-Antoine Coypel and engraved by Louis Surugue père (8), Charles-Nicolas Cochin père (3), François Joullain (3), Nicolas-Henri Tardieu (2), Simon-François Ravenet (1), Nicolas Charles de Silvestre (1), Jean-Baptiste Haussard (1), Nicolas-Dauphin de Beauvais (2), François de Poilly le Jeune (1), Louise-Magdeleine Horthemels (2) y Bernard Lépicié (1). Cushing has 12 of them. Six of these engravings are included in Cushing's extra illustrated copy of John Bowle's edition of the Quixote (London, 1781).
Description: Originally done as cartoons for tapestries. They were later engraved and published in series in Paris since 1723 and sold separately. Illustrations: It has 10 double page illustrations, folded, after Coypel's designs newly engraved by Gerard van der Gucht. It also includes several ornamental headpieces not about Don Quixote (gallant scenes, birds, landscapes, Apollo and Daphne...). Ashbee refers in error to 22 illustrations. The same plates were later used in London: Walthoe, 1731, adding 12 illustrations more, also after Coypel's designs.
Description: Text now printed verbatim from the fourth edition of 1620. "With a curious set of cuts from the French of Coypel." First edition of the Quixote that includes the engravings of Charles-Antoine Coypel's designs; very rare. Originally done as paintings for the production of tapestries, they were often reproduced and included in numerous editions during the 18th century.

Illustrations: Contains two large plates from a set of 24 after the designs by Charles-Antoine Coypel, turned and sold by Gerard van der Gucht. These two illustrations are included in Cushing's copy of John Bowle's (London, 1781) edition of the Quixote. Cushing has another copy of the complete album with all 25 illustrations.

Six are partial copies after the same. 12 illustrations are new designs by Obregón, and one is by an unknown designer. It has the same re-engraved plates previously used for Madrid: Antonio Gonçalez de Reyes, 1706; Madrid: Francisco Laso, 1714; Madrid: Hermandad de San Gerónimo, 1723; Madrid: Pedro del Castillo, 1723.

In Cushing's copy volume I (one frontis plus nine illustrations) and volume V (one frontis? plus five illustrations) are missing. There are 31 illustrations in volumes I - IV about Cervantes' Don Quixote. Five in vol. V are about Saint-Martin's Continuation, and three in vol. VI are about Robert Challe's Continuation. Illustrations: Includes two headpieces after Savery's frontispieces (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657) and 43 vignettes placed in the text at the head of the chapters (not 44 as it is said in the title page). All are unsigned. 32 are copies after Diego de Obregón's illustrations for Madrid: A. García de la Iglesia, 1674. Three of them appear twice in different chapters. Eight illustrations are not after Obregón: "DQ knighted", "Andrés' lashes", "Escrutiny of DQ's library", "Mambrino's helmet", "Beginning of the dispute at inn", "DQ defeats the Knight of the Mirrors", "Adventure of cats" and "DQ with the priest and bachelor". They follow the tradition of Savery (Dordrecht: Savery, 1657 and later editions) and Bouttats (Amberes: Verdussen, 1672-73). "They are crude and rough in execution" (Ashbee). "Las láminas intercaladas que adornan esta edición son muy malas" (Río y Rico). Copied with less or more quality for Madrid: Juan de San Martín, 1741; Madrid: Pedro Alonso y Padilla, 1750-51; Madrid: Manuel Martín, 1765 (and 1782); Barcelona: Juan Jolis, 1755 (and 1762).
