There are 24 illustrations (xylographs) designed by Jean-Ignace-Isidore Gérard Grandville and Karl Girardet and engraved by Barbant, Paul Constant Soyer, Chevauchet and Quichon (not all signed); and ornamental headpieces and initials (not about Don Quixote). Same illus. first used for Tours: Mame et Cie., 1848, 1858 and 1970. Also used or copied for Tours: Mame, 1885.
Description: Excellently printed edition on quality paper. Cushing Library has two different copies. One of them lacks a chapter illustration ("DQ knighted").

Description: Beautiful limited edition printed in high quality paper. Cushing's copy is bound in full brown leather, with raised bands and gilt edges.

Illustrations: Includes two title pages with Juan de la Cuesta's emblem (one for each part); a dedication with an illustrated frame, a portrait of Cervantes by Bartolomé Maura y Montaner (reproduced by helioengraving) with a color frame. Also has 126 headpieces and 126 tailpieces (xylographs), 44 chromolithographs (23 in part I and 21 in part II). The illustrators are by Ricardo Balaca y Canseco and José Luis Pellicer. The woodengravers are Burn Smeeton, Auguste and Pierre Emile Tilly, Celestino Sadurní y Deop, Gómez, N. Branguli, Martín, Paris, Bruna, Clemente, Manuel Pantaleón Pérez, Arturo Carretero y Sánchez, Artigas and the monogramists are N.V.R. and P.Z. Some chromolithographs are signed by the lithographers J. García, F.K. and T.E. The edition "es realmente suntuosa por la belleza de su parte tipográfica y el indiscutible mérito de los dos artistas que tan concienzudamente supieron adornarla con sus dibujos" (RR 84).
